Fourth Annual Cajun Supper

-

Saturday March 10, 2018 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Otey Parish's Claiborne Hall in Sewanee.

The Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary Club's Cajun Supper will be held in St. Mark's Hall in the Claiborne Parish House, at Otey Memorial Parish. There will be live music to provide a festive atmosphere while diners enjoy the freshly prepared Cajun fare, including crawfish etoufee or vegetarian red beans, rice, sides, a dessert, and refreshments. Beer will also be available for purchase. To-go food packages will be provided for those who may want to enjoy their supper at home, or perhaps bring supper to family or friends.

Perhaps most notable is the cause for the Monteagle-Sewanee fundraising event. The Cajun Supper proceeds support the club's international projects, such as the Sewanee Haiti Initiative. The Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary club has donated $2,500 to work in Haiti. According to Dr. Deborah McGrath, professor of Biology, "This fund was so important for helping support five research interns who worked with 4 Haitian technicians and 30 Haitian families in 2 villages to conduct agro-ecological research, aimed at better understanding the farming systems to find other strategies, in addition to coffee, that work for all households. While Sewanee internships pay the student researchers a weekly stipend, the cost of round trip airfare, in country transport and room in board in Haiti consume a significant amount of this. The Rotary club gift allowed each intern to receive $400 towards their plane ticket so that they could afford to do research in Haiti. The students have been very devoted to the project, returning over several summers/spring breaks. The remaining $500 from the Rotary gift was used to help farmers in Bois Jolie stock their nursery with tree seedlings."
