PO Box 336 - Monteagle, Tennessee 37356
ABOUT THE CLUB:
Chartered on December 11, 1984 with 29 members under the sponsorship of the Winchester Rotary Club, with Joe Milner serving as our first President.
In 1987 Jennie Thomas joined us, becoming our first female member, and quite possibly the first female rotarian in all of Tennessee. Shirley Tate became our first woman President in 1992.
On November 17, 2011, District Governor Frank Rothermel formerly inducted ten new members to form the Satellite Club as part of the Rotary International Satellite Club pilot program.
We currently have 50 members under the direction of President John Hille.
NAME CHANGE:
The formation of the Sewanee Satellite Group in 2011, under Rotary International's pilot program, brought quite a few new members to our club. Under this program we are all one club, with two meeting places and times each week. Since most of our members are from the communities of Monteagle and Sewanee, and we have a meeting place in each, it was deemed appropriate to change our name to Monteagle-Sewanee Rotary Club.
ABOUT ROTARY INTERNATIONAL:
We are one of over 34,000 clubs worldwide, where you'll find members volunteering in communities at home and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, eradicate polio, and much more.
The world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, was formed in 1905 by Paul Harris, who wished to capture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth.
In the last 100 years Rotary has grown from the humble beginnings in Chicago to the international service organization it is today.
